what on earth happened in 2021?.

2021 may seem like a blur, but amid all the uncertainty and changes, some amazing inventions came out of the minds of humans across the world. And to make our lives easier, Time Magazine put them all together in the "Best Inventions of 2021", and we wanted to show you some of our favourite ones.

1. Tonal
Revolutionising the future of home-workouts is Tonal; the at-home strength training machine designed to make staying in shape more accessible, with less equipment and tedious trips to the gym. And it has blown up all over the world.

Not only does it boast a modern, sleek design that looks more like a part of your home's décor than an at-home gym, but it also offers an array of features and benefits that have changed the way we view working out forever.

Tonal mounts to your living room wall and uses electromagnetism to create resistance, with over 200 exercises, including deadlifts, bicep curls, and overhead presses, and on-demand coaching. With thousands of workouts and expert coaches to guide you through every one, Tonal offers the ultimate personalised training for every level and the possible future of home-gyms for all of us.

2. Robin the Robot

It turns out the future of empathetic robots might be closer than we thought. Meet Robin the Robot; the robot companion designed to give children contact, attention, and companionship in hospitals.

Robin the Robot was first introduced in a paediatric clinic in Armenia, and research conducted in 2021 reports an increase in patients' mood and appetites after interactions with Robin.

"We aim to change kid's perception of medical treatments, where they will no longer feel isolated, lonely and scared," says Karen Khachikyan, CEO and founder of Expper Technologies. The robot companion can study children's moods and emotional state and respond on the spot with a cheerful voice to appeal to children and instantly gain their trust.

These robot companions might be more like medical devices than the robots that tried to take over the world in I, Robot, but if they're improving the lives of children in hospitals, we're all for them.

3. Omniverse

Last year you would have noticed the sudden rise in "verses" flying around, with the Metaverse™ leading the craze. But there's another simulation you need to know about; NVIDIA Omniverse™.

NVIDIA Omniverse™ is considered to be the key to the success of the Metaverse™. It is a virtual platform built for remote collaboration and real-time physically accurate simulation. Essentially, it is a platform where creators, researchers, engineers and designers of all types can connect major design tools, assets, and projects to collaborate and iterate in a shared virtual world, eliminating the need for any in-person meetings... possibly ever.

The goal is for individuals, brands and companies to work in 3D-produced teams on complex projects from virtually anywhere. This is a massive component of the Metaverse™ being able to operate the way it dreams it will.

If you thought remote-working was an adjustment, 2022 could bring on a whole new dimension of (virtual) life; one that we might all be able to access sooner than we thought.

4. BuzzBell

If you thought there weren't already enough communication platforms, think again. BuzzBell is the first and only messaging app that gives message senders the power to differentiate important messages and calls when they're delivered to recipients.

The first-of-its-kind communication tool was developed by global technologic company In-telligent. BuzzBell allows users to decide how their messages are received via a unique audible vibration (Buzz) and ringtone (Bell) to ensure the receiver sees and hears them.

Not only can you control how your messages are sent, but the app also offers various ways to communicate with unlimited voice and video calls. Similarly to WhatsApp, BuzzBell allows you to share your favourite photos, videos, emojis, hyperlinks and attachments with your contacts.

It may not be as revolutionary as the Omniverse, but it sure seems like a great addition to our means of communication with people near and far.

From empathetic robots to a virtual future of working, playing and living, 2021 brought about some cool and highly advanced inventions that are changing how we live and work forever. We can't wait to see what 2022 brings.
